NBA star Enes Kanter calls Turkey's Erdoğan "the Hitler of our century": "I hope the world's going to do something. Enes Kanter, an NBA center with Turkish roots, is returning to the U.S. today after having
been detained for several hours at a Romanian airport following
statements he made criticizing Turkey's president.
Romanian border police confirmed to ABC News that Kanter's travel
documents had been canceled by his home country and he was not allowed
to enter the country.
"The reason behind it is just of course my political views," Kanter said
of his detainment in a cell phone video captured at the airport on
Saturday and posted to Twitter. "And, the person who did it is Recep Tayyip Erdogan."
"Erdogan,
he's a terrible man. He's the Hitler of our century," Kanter said. "I
hope the world is going to do something about it."
Kanter,
who returned to the United States via London after his release by
Romanian authorities, said on Monday his worst fear was to be sent
against his will to Turkey.
"It
was, of course, scary. If they sent me back to Turkey, probably you
guys wouldn't hear a word from me the second day," Kanter said.
